check me out: flag girl?

I finally got my new vintage boots in the mail! They’d gotten mailed to Vancouver and had to be forwarded. These luscious, buttery cream leather flat boots with a ruched snakeskin detail at the heel…
boots
I’ve been so excited about these but then I go to try them on and I just can’t ignore my resemblance to a drum corps flag girl…
cozysweatervestdress.jpg
knit beret: 25 cents, thrifted
cozy cowl neck sweater dress, available at ladylanguage for $21.60 with coupon code (The owner Michelle is my friend- I keep her in new graphics and she keeps me stylish in my times of need)!
blue calvin klein sweater vest, thrifted $3
grey skinny jeans, target $17
flag girl boots, vintage eBay, $25

So now I’ve only worn the boots once because I feel like I should be marching when I don them. I’m sure it’s just me, but maybe the effect would be lessened when worn with my cream lace tights? Or perhaps I should just own flag girl chic like its on purpose and wear ‘em with epaulets. But then, I’m no Gwen.

  2. Try them with skirts and with brown tights too - I own a nearly identical pair and I wear them all the freaking time, they are just a little different than the average boots! Love the ruched detail!

  4. Now, just looking at those boots, I thought - no way. White boots, so yesterday, meaning way back in the 80’s. But the way you put that whole ensemble together… gorgeous!

You get a big thumbs up from this Diva!

  6. I don’t really see the flags….but my attention (nerdy clarinet girl) was usually on trying to march without getting clouted by the hopelessly clumsy cymbal boy! All the pieces you have on are really cute! I recently scooped some cream pixie boots at Goodwill, but I’m finding it hard to pair them up. Maybe I’m just stuck in a rut, but I wonder if cream boots will be easier with summery things? Anyway, I think they’d look great putting them with tights like Heather said.

  7. Where’s the baton and spandex? Kidding! Boots are great. The thrill of purchasing them from the internet makes them all the more sweet. -the DCGF

  8. Hmm, they just say 80’s to me. How about instead of with jeans something very trendy with some tights–I think that would make the difference–especially if the top half was dark in comparison. I definitely wouldn’t wear them with anything that looked 80’s or with bare legs and a short skirt (which is how we had to wear them in marching band. ;))

On the other hand the rest of that outfit would be awesome with darker, less slouchy boots.

  9. I wouldn’t have thought flag girl, but now that you said it I see it. Still very cute on you. I love that sweater dress and the beret. I just discovered this site, and I think it’s going to get me in trouble. I keep wanting to buy everything.
