Some people take themselves way too seriously

…but not Marc Jacobs!

He dressed up as a camel toe for his own Arabian Nights-themed holiday party. I love it! Must’ve been tough trying to go to the bathroom in that thing, maybe there’s a built-in toilet? HA! Ooh, sorry.

BTW, sorry about the sporadic postings lately! We’re working on some big changes for Painfully Hip (finally a new masthead!) which will hopefully be up sometime next week!
Have a bitchin’ weekend!

thrift stars of the week! 11 Dec 07

The theme this week seems to be mostly neutrals with unexpected accents, for some reason.
Here are my favorite wardrobe remixers this week…

doublepuff
what a brilliant layering effect! i never would have thought of that! …and that’s why i will never be a thrift star. sigh…

balcony
ah the golden hour, perfect for making a simple little vintage dress look like something dreams are made of.

society
vintagesocietygirl is the master of contrast. beautiful.

grnscarf
cute and cozy come to terms with one another.

cleo
this dress is from h&m! and i was about to have a minor aneurism trying to contemplate such thrifting luck. i’m pretty sure the little beige dress will be the new LBD this year.

white jeans
i’ve never wanted a pair of white jeans so badly in my life. or not since 7th grade anyway. oh jiminy, are you seeing the fit of that beyond perfect leather jacket?!

whttrapeze
this iconic photo gives me simultaneous flashbacks of 3 different movies: Rosemary’s Baby, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and the Wizard of Oz.

ivyfroz
IvyFrozen is OWNING “bullfighter chic!” good lord in heaven, can she pull off anything?

roses
red and purple, a royally hip combo. the shoes with the tights! heaven.

tea
i love this outfit so much that i had to include the outerwear photo as well:

cape
C’MON!! ok, now i’m having an aneurism.

oversized houndstooth and checks, oh my!

i am absolutely fawning over big prints lately! prints that we’re used to seeing on a small scale are blowing up! houndstooth was always meant to be a small, discreet, subtle pattern. but lately i’ve been seeing it audaciously, graphicly oversized…

liebe

houndstooth

I also love it on accessories:
scarf

bag

or mixed with other patterns…
lebonbon
or here, Sherbet Tone is wearing the most demure of tiny patterns, gingham. but oversized, it’s transformed into deliciously eye-catching purple checks!

Blow it up!

Check me out: Twin Day

Since Amber and I are both self-employed, we like to have a Twin Day every once in a while and do silly decadent stuff like watch Project Runway on Youtube, spend hours in the clearance section at Target, go to Yoga class, go thrifting (although we always fight over stuff), eat mexican food, and get dressed up and take pictures on a Wednesday while everyone else is zoning out at their desk jobs and getting yelled at for not washing the coffee pot in the staff room.

On this particular rainy day, I wore:
