Vogue UK: past December covers of questionable taste

When i saw this cover of the latest December issue of Vogue UK, I was impressed by how over the top and verging on cheesy it was.

So I thought it might be fun to check out December covers from the past. Are they always this over the top? No, but here are some real doozies…

Oh look! Apparently if you’re on the cover of Vogue it’s totally ok to put your crotch in a man’s face whilst wearing a teensy mini dress! Just so long as he is outwardly gay.

Can you believe this one is a full 10 years older than the Elton John cover? Wow. I hope that whoever thought of slapping that awful frosted mullet wig on Christie Turlington is now doing something else for a living. Like plumbing.

They totally should’ve taken this at least one step further and put this cover photo on the vogue covers on her dress. That’d be trippy.

Twiggy must’ve been barely 25 when this photo was taken. But with all that severe makeup, she looks almost the same as she does now.

Although kind of awesome in it’s own way, this photo seems like a very odd choice for any issue nevermind a December issue, which one would expect to be somewhat sentimental and/or glamorous… and not featuring some hippie dressed as a macaw.

Merry Everything, you guys! Thanks so much for reading us this year!

  1. I think that Christy Turlington is wearing a body beaded body suit by Versace that is covered in my book review a few posts down.

  2. Wow, I remember getting that 2002 issue and not even realizing how risque it was. And corny!

The ’70s ones are kind of nice though. All that pastel makeup. I like it.

  3. I rather liked that last cover. And this year’s November cover with Sophie Dahl was much better than the December one, though the cover Sienna did for them in December 2004 was rather nice.
