help me, you mad DIY geniuses…

I found this necklace at Creatures of Comfort for $197! Anyone have any ideas at all on how I could recreate this on the cheap…?

pulltab

Anyone? Anyone at all?? I’m utterly stumped. ;)
EDIT: Um… OK OK, I’m not really all that stumped! It was supposed to be a hilariously un-funny joke. Get it?? Sigh…

  3. Hei..funny.
My baby made me long time ago beuatiful necklaces out of computer parts. You have no idea what a treasure is in the back of the old computers..big rings in at least 3 metal colors, little plaques with holes in them.Absolutely magnificent!

  4. I know one of the girls who does that Thorn NYC line.. where the can tab necklace is from.. It seems like it started as a joke or something, the rest of their line is really beautiful the whole idea being taken from bits of stuff they find in the forest, on the ground etc. but I can see how this one taken out of context can be a little ridiculous.. As pretty as the jewelry is, it is overpriced.. maybe because they sell at opening ceremony etc..

  9. maybe if the tab was amazingly gaudy and huge in size i would contemplate paying 20 bucks for the thing…but $197 for a used beer can tab? a tid bit ridiculous.

  12. Thanks for the laugh! I even made hubby come over to check it out. I told him I found something I’d love for my birthday. The look on his face at the sight of the necklace was great, but the look when he saw the price was priceless! WTF?

  14. I think to make something like that on your own you’d need a lot of test tubes and uranium. And possibly pixie dust.

  15. Wow, I feel really stupid.

It took me until I scrolled down to your ammendment to realise that you were joking…. I wasn’t thinking too hard. ;)
I had a good laugh though.

Starting to make me thing that the high end jewelry industry is the way to go.

  16. Take a pop top from a soda can and spray it with some oxidized looking spray paint. After it dries, hammer it softly to flatten. Head over to the local hardware store and get a small link chain (they should stock that oxidized look, otherwise, spray it), then hop on over to firemountaingems.com or any other jewelry facet store and buy a lobster clasp and the circle holders (again, spray it). Get a pliers and put it together. I would love to see that :)
