it’s always summer in the southwest…

i have to admit, all the “i’m so excited about fall!!” blog-talk is starting to make me jealous.

my google reader is full of nothing but cute little sweaters and talk of tights.

tights!

i’ll tell you what happened yesterday in my life:  the thermometer on my back porch passed the 100 mark before noon. i waited as long as i could for the ice storm i could have sworn i saw brewing in the distance, but when it 4:00 rolled around and it still hadn’t hit, i oozed my over-heated body into my un-air conditioned car, and sizzled myself around to a couple of my favorite thrift stores in search of more tank tops.  this is not because i don’t already have a million tank tops.

“why did you buy more tanks tops then, diana?”

well, because it’s too hot out to do my laundry.

mooka kinney is also making me really autumn-jealous:

summery dresses with thick autumn tights?  crop-tops in thick sweater-like materials?

it’s still gonna be a very long time before these wardrobe options are mine.

etsy love

with fall just around the corner and armed with the “back to school” shopping excuse, (no, i’m not actually going back to school.  shhh.) i’ve been trolling the interweb for fantastic, low-cost, (read: steals) vintage finds.

there are quite a few.  (who would have guessed?!)

i thought that maybe, because i’m a nice person under certain circumstances, i might share some of these finds.  (scoring sweet-ass vintage goodies is NOT one of the above-mentioned “circumstances” that i tend to be nice in.  consider yourself lucky.)

ramonawest is kind of my girl-crush at the moment.

i’ve been lurking on her blog for the past week (or 12…) now, every once in a while piping up with some awkward little comment like, “hi!” in hopes that she might think i’m cool too.  (“hi” being the key word to cool-dom.)

her blog is fantastic though, full of adorable pictures of drool-worthy clothes, and cute little updates about her shop.  also, that fantastic header she has going on there?  apparently she drew that.  (i learned that from reading her blog.  you can actually learn a lot from reading, as it turns out.)

anyway, as if you needed more of a reason to check out her etsy, i’ll give you some visuals as well:

can i say “i told you so,” now?

please?

check us out: iPod battalion

Apparently Team Painfully Hip were cursed on the night of the iPod Battle. How is it we couldn’t win by jitterbugging savagely and in perfect sync to an obscure Nigerian tribal dance jam and then shit-talking at the judge all night long?? Not only that, but the full outfit photos of the Studio 54-esque vintage dresses we bought that day somehow got mysteriously erased from Eve’s camera and all that was left on it were some smug photos of the unofficial winners in their oversized wrestling belts (the cops in Sacramento think that Fun is illegal and shut the bar down at 12:30 for a slight over-capacity situation before a decision was reached – I guess there is such a thing as too much publicity).

However, it was really fun competing against the other most stylish duo in the city, Trisha and Olivia of Pretty Trashy and Bows & Arrows:

UPDATE: Here’s a hilarious photo collage from SacTown magazine where they describe me as “doing her best Paris (Hilton) pose.” Ugh.

warning:  i’m about to go a bit over-board.  i actually had to draw the line at 5.  it could have gotten really out of control.
