folkloric chic
originally uploaded by psychedelic_saffron for wardrobe_remix

Psychedelic_saffron has an obvious knack for audacious mash-ups of authentic 60s hypnotica. It’s folkloric chic… exactly what Dorothy would be wearing if she’d opted for Oz over Kansas, just like we all hoped she would.

Question: What band do you guys think would make a good soundtrack for traipsing atop gold bricks in this outfit, partying with Munchkins?
I say Architecture In Helsinki, my friend Barrie thinks Pink Floyd.

    a) I love the phrase “folkloric chic.”
    b) I love those shoes with the black tights.
    c) I ALWAYS hoped Dorothy would stay in Oz. Partying with Pink Floyd as her background music. Alice should’ve stayed in Wonderland too.

  • just dropping in to leave a comment because I can’t find a contact email on your site :-/

I notice that you ride an awesome road bike. There are a lot of bikes on fashion sites and blogs but they are mainly vintage cruisers. Not that there’s anything wrong with that… I used to own me one of those but now I have a great road bike that I use to get around hilly Austin. My question for you is about style while en velo. It’s easy to wear skirts, dresses, and even hills while riding a cruiser, but what about when you ride a road bike to get further, faster? What’s your outfit of choice? I still want to look cute without getting too sweaty. And I can’t wear shorts at my work – which is terrible in Austin during the summer!

    any style tips? -kristen

  • This is awesome! I think it’s pretty daring to put green and red together but she doesn’t come off like christmas at all! PS. I think the soundtrack would be Donovon all the way :~)

  • I’d blast Cibo Matto in Oz!

As for the soundtrack, most definitely Santogold’s self-titled album.

  • The Hush Sound, definitely.

  • eee what a cute handkerchief-thingy!

i didn’t understand why dorothy would leave oz, either. or why alice seemed so bemused in wonderland <3

  • oh i didn’t even see barrie’s comment!
    great minds think alike :D

  • Architecture in Helsinki for sure!
Maybe also The Bird and The Bee

  • love the colours and the bow

  • Brilliant! You described her perfectly.

  • Eve

She needs some Fairport Convention or some Incredible String Band for SURE.

  • This is cute, love the neck tie thing :)

  • Mel

My first choice was Kraftwerk… but it seems too cold and electronic for someone as quirky and colorful… Maybe Le Tigre!!!! I can picture her dancing her butt off… YAY!!!

  • Melyssa

eve is the only one who gets the music right..

Hey, this is psychedelic_saffron, as pictured above — I’m really honoured that you chose to blog my outfit, and it’s encouraging to see how well received it was. Thanks for all the great comments, everyone! As for a soundtrack, a couple of you definitely hit the mark. Dononvan is seriously my favourite artist of all time, and I also adore Fairport Convention and The Incredible String Band! Anything psychedelic goes, really, where both clothing and music are concerned. Thanks again!
