Boy is this awkward. Um. Let’s just get it over with.
Hello readers,
My name is Jamaica and I am the fabled third roomate. I’ve been lurking around for a while now, creeping into Amber’s room and whispering “LINK ME IN YOUR BLOG” into her ear while she’s sleeping in hopes of subliminal influence (PLUG: I have a clothing line called Sapphire Cordial). Then one day completely out of the blue she asked me to post on Painfully Hip on a semi-regular basis. Coincidence? I think not.
Okay okay, so she asked me last June and I’m just now posting. Don’t judge me.
The point is, I wore a really cute outfit the other day.
The jumper was thrifted (from the kid’s section) a mere 4 blocks from our little adobe dreamhouse, and the belt and leggings both impulsively purchased at Ross for a combined sum of $10. The moccasins cost me a pretty penny about six years ago, but a pretty penny to me is a rusty gum-covered one that’s been put in one of those “a historical train flattened this” machines to most people. What I’m trying to say is, your local army surplus store often holds suprising $50 leather treasures.
To brighten up that Twin Peaks plaid, I added in a jewel-toned tank, gypsy scarf, and another belt– as a headband.
I have an intense tendency toward neutrals, so let me just note: that’s blue, green and several shades of purple at once! I’m growing!

Next up: What in the name of all that is holy am I going to wear to Tucson’s Andy Warhol weekend?
I promised Amber her very own Sapphire Cordial Edie Sedgwick dress for her appearance at the Tucson Museum of Art and POP at the Rialto Theater this Friday. Oh wait. That’s tomorrow. Good thing we already raided JoAnn’s for the perfect jaquard.
I better get to work so I have time to dress myself. Boy is this some Cinderella shit.

I’m up at ASU right now for uni, but I really hope that sometime when I’m back in Tucson I run into you guys. That would absolutely make my day. Fangirling much? I can’t help myself, but I love your blog, and wish desperately that I could be in Tucson for all of its wonderful events. For the first time in forever, I’ve missed both the gem show AND the rodeo? NO FAIR. I have to ask: did you guys go to any of the gem show events? There’s always some seriously stylin’ possibilities there.
You should write on here more often! I like your quirky writing style and your outfit is beyond cute… what I’m trying to say is, more Jamaica, please
i definitely agree with suzanne..quirky is the word..not just funny but witty and look edgy at the same time..would still be prety even without or with permanent make up on..way to go Jamaica
i never figured you for tall moccs…i guess we had more in common than i thought! anyway, atelier is dead but two of us kept the spot and turned it into crimson & clover and it is lovely…but i miss seeing the purty ruffled fanny dandelion yellow sapphire cordial dress hanging in the shop (among others). wishing you much arizona happiness!
