Emily K. Larned of Red Charming recently sent me a copy of her awesome ‘zine, Parfait, “…in which your discerning editor turns her sartorial eye to antiquated books seeking fashion inspiration for all.”
Pretty much like Painfully Hip’s thrift stars, but with vintage photographs …and good writing.

Obviously right up my alley- I absolutely loved it. It came beautifully hand-bound and packaged and was entertaining as f#$%. Here’s an excerpt (and a regretfully bad scan):

ALL WHITE ALL THE TIME
It is 1965 and dude is on a skateboard vying for our attention, but who are we really looking at? That’s right, dude all the way back all in white. We’re looking at you. We like your look. Note how he does not ruin his all-white awesomeness by not wearing white shoes. He’s on it. None of his friends are as stylin’ but he doesn’t care. He doesn’t judge.
I’d recommend sending a copy to your fashion-obsessed penpals in lieu of a lameass christmas card. seriously, they’re only $6!
She also sent a beautiful hardcover book she wrote packed with titillating photography called Thrift Store, The Past & Future Secret Lives of Things, another perfect gift for the insatiable thrifters in your life.

one of my very favorite streetwear sites to browse is copenhagen street style. those copenhageners (copenhagenites? copenhagenese?) have true, fearless and unrepentant personal style. well, last week was the Copenhagen International Fashion Fair and i absolutely love their take on this year’s fall trends (click illustrations for description).

You all remember Amber’s train kids post. Well, Fecal Face remains a daily haunt for me and their Photo of the Day feature is my favorite. There are so many hip kids and lovely clothes that I decided to sift through the June and July submissions and post my favorite:

C’mon. Stop smiling at me like you are the cutest girl in the world who’s also wearing the cutest dress in the world while holding the leash of the cutest pit bull in the world (Notice I didn’t say “cutest dog in the world”, as we all know who that is.), because well, you are. Even though, as a survivor of a pit bull attack, I am justified in hating pit bulls forever, that puppyface and that dress have moved me to grant temporary clemency for the sake of this post.

This woman is single-handedly (and double-breastedly) bringing back those protactor-sized frames and original Macintoshes (and I must have those shoes). No man can remain floppy around her.

This girl was the only one in the shot five seconds ago, thats how H-O-T she is. Those dudes are just smoking cigarettes in an attempt to make their penises look large in comparison. Something tells me this chicky-pants isn’t falling for it.

She’s reading her fan mail. One of them’s from me to her sweater.

NICE trenchcoat!!! Hopefully you’re not nude under there, because that coat belongs on the wall next to the Warhol.

I can’t even really see what she’s wearing, but isn’t this picture mesmorizing? I hope she’s watching out for cars out her window, it would be a shame for that gorgeous mane to get matted in blood. Or maybe she’s taking that beautiful room on tour to show the world what serenity looks like.
look at me, another handbag post! in my numerous, unfettered searches for fabulousness, i began to notice these amazing bamboo and recycled newspaper handbags by Raw Bags. the bamboo bags are being offered at stupidly awesome prices (10% off and free shipping), they are so rich, artful and earth-friendly as well. and, OMG, i totally heart the earth! the earth is my favorite.
amazingly, the recycled newspaper bags are way more expensive than the bamboo ones, so i won’t be featuring those. although they’re really cute, i don’t heart the earth enough to carry woven garbage around and pay $90 for the privilege. madness.
anyway, these beauties are probably not the most comfortable thing to wear, but pshaw, i’d be happy to bend over and take one for these lovely objets d’art!

bamboo matchstick bag $39.60
sorta reminds me of a glorified sushi mat, this can be converted to an over-sized clutch.

black bamboo cube handbag $50.40
tres chic! also comes in natural bamboo color.

bamboo wallet $10.80
this is more like a coin purse than a wallet, but super cute.

bamboo cube clutch $45
i adore this! it also comes in black, tan and green
THINGS I LOVE ABOUT SUMMER FASHION THIS YEAR
(my pix from wardrobe remix):
candy stripes and pin stripes!

i never would have thought of this combo, but it’s perfect on her.

don’t look so glum! you’re a young and in technicolor!

neon kittens are hip??? i believe.
loose and floaty cropped shortish-sleeved blousey thingies used for layering!

lovely!! i kind of want to punch her right in the face. the jeans are sent from heaven!

there are way too many pretty girls in vancouver. love the shoes.
(these 2 photos from the commodified)
layered jumpers!

could her hair be any cuter?? seriously about to start puking up bunny rabbits.

who knew an old grampa v-neck could look so hot? i want her hair.

super sweet! i need some white raybans.

this girl is so striking, it took me a while to notice the wicked wheels behind her. love the white jazz shoes.

this girl knows how to properly rock a jumper.
dresses, dresses, dresses!

the accessories are making me swoon: glasses, necklace, boots, clutch!

this dress is amazing!

great way to lengthen a too short mini-dress- wear it over a circle skirt!

once again, the accessories make the outfit. i love the opaque tights with the sandals.
short, short shorts!

these shorts look a lot like my sailor shorts, but mine have loads more buttons. i have to undo a minimum of 10 buttons to get them off. therefore? i can never wear them to a bar. and just so you know? oversize cardi’s are an absolute MUST. i wear mine constantly.

these shorts are killing me. gigantic patch pockets to put the world in!

ok seriously, stop being so damn adorable.
wacky prints and polka dots!

how many times have i seen that exact sweater in a thrift store and didn’t look twice? so cute.

ok, NOW i’m puking up bunny rabbits. i want to put them both in my gigantic patch pockets and take them home with me.

I saw The Fountain again the other day and I was reminded about how amazing trees are! Trees are in nearly every creation story, every religion and every psychedelic experience. They represent a metaphor for life and eternity. And since my name is Eve, it seems appropriate that clothes with trees on them have always tempted me.

Bonsai Handbag $49

Leaves Tee $27

Spring Tree T $20
Owl Tree T $26

Gnarly Willow Pendant $13

Tree on Blue Pendant $3 (!!!)

Tree on the Lake Earrings $27

Glass Tree Necklace $29

Organic Cotton Tree Dress $32
Please bury me in these and then plant a redwood over my grave so that I may live forever!
i’m in california still, i fly home tomorrow. we had a pretty good weekend in SoCal, considering we ended up catering my brother’s 150 person wedding reception w/ only 2 other people to help out at the last minute, but miraculously it all turned out ok. so today, poor Eve’s back to work and i’m just relaxing in the sun, de-stressing and making the most of it. nevertheless, we were feeling a bit uninspired on account of major, stress/heat/traffic/travel burnout, so eve and i played dress-up for her friend’s birthday party with a couple of great accessories that she hadn’t worn yet. a beautiful striped pageboy hat and an amazing stripey silk scarf. so we decided to combine my suitcase and her wardrobe and put them to use. it’s fun to find your inspiration via great accessories and see what you come up with.

on Eve:
eve’s beautiful striped pageboy hat, a gift from a friend
eve’s black tissue t-shirt from Target, $10
my most beloved wool sailor shorts, $7
my 9 West bronze rope sandals from Winner’s $38
on Amber:
eve’s stripey silk scarf, $2 thrift store
eve’s blue tunic, $12, Nordstrom Rack
short shorts, $15 (i think i changed into eve’s white linen ones before we left)
my vintage leather filigree huarache oxfords, $7 Value Village
sorry about the lack of posts in the last couple days, and also in advance for the next few days, but yesterday i flew to california (well- car, greyhound to seattle, citybus, plane and car- shuddup, it was $225 cheaper than flying non-stop from vancouver) for my brother’s wedding in san diego. went straight from the airport to a backyard party/laughathon/twin hammock relaxation amidst the candlelight on a 70 degree evening. after a morning of homebrewing and sitting in the sun listening to Caribou with my favorite brother-in-law, i’m in an excellent mood. when i’m in a mood like this, i only want to look at happy things. like giddy, fashionable couples, squinting in the lovely warm sun.

have a fantasmic day.
ah. l’amour and the printed scarf…

i’m all about effortless chic. i’m honestly just lazy. i love pieces that i can just throw on at the last minute and at least look like i give a dangdoodle. soft, pretty things make me happy and the lovable printed scarf is yet another easy item (among things like the
jacket and the
cropped vest) that can add flair, pattern, or a pop of colour to an otherwise basic outfit. it can sometimes even (wait for it…)
tie you’re whole look together ( i am so effing hilarious). a gorgeous actress came into my work last week wearing the cutest, easiest outfit: a skinny rock tee, jeans, chucks, a cropped vest and a kerchief around her neck and i seriously got an instant girl crush. that outfit should be her
uniform.
i’ve always been a fan of the headscarf, but lately i’m loving the rock-chic neckerchief style, tied with one corner in the front. some messy fringe or an unraveling edge will emphasize your unaffected cool factor. you’re all like, “whatevah, bitches. i can’t help it, i’m just that hip.”

scarves can add interest to almost any outfit and the possibilities are endless…
(here’s our fearless style hero leibemarlene, wearing a crocheted pansy table runner round her disgustingly adorable lil’ neck). you can also wear them as belts, or tied onto the handle of your leather hobo or tote.
the best part of it is, these kinds of scarves (and table runners for that matter) are a dime a dozen in thrift shops. but if you’re having trouble finding just the right one, urban outfitters has a wicked selection from $4.99 up.
