Mad Boy: America’s Most Stylish 8 year old

Oh happy day, Eve just found out seconds ago that the lil’ tinykins currently inhabiting her womb is a BOY! Soon to be named Ennio. Yesterday we were agreeing about how it seems that no amount of frills and lace can make a baby girl any cuter, but the absolute cutest way to dress a boy is to dress him like an old man.

In celebration of today, I just HAD to post these photos from GQ of Arlo Weiner (son of the creator of HBO’s Mad Men), currently being touted as America’s Most Stylish 8 year old. Needless to say? I believe.

Arlo Weiner velvet suit

“This is my Valentine’s Day outfit. The jacket and the pants are velvet. I love the tie because it’s really two ties stacked on top of each other. (My dad had to tie it for me.) The pink tie matched the pink shirt. I wore brown-and-white argyle socks for a random pattern.”

“My mom got the jacket for me—I love it because I love Frank Sinatra and this is like something he would wear. I wore the jacket with the pants because I like the different plaids together. I thought the blue in the necklace brought out the blue in the pants. It’s a blue orb with fire around it.”

arlo weiner top hat

“I have a lot of black outfits these days, so I needed the red ascot to add some color. I love red and black together—they each make the other stand out. I’ve worn this to school about 12 times.”

“The hat is like a Frank Sinatra hat. I wore the jacket with the tie because green and gray are my favorite blend. I’m holding my dad’s bag in the picture, but at school I use my dad’s old brown leather satchel.”

“This is my favorite outfit. The tie is a regular tie, but I tied it like that because I’ve seen it done that way in old English movies. Even though the tie and the jacket are different colors, they’re both striped, so I thought they looked right together. And I wore the vest and pants together because they’re both shades of red.”

It’s really funny too that Diana posted about stylish young’uns yesterday. We’re just on the same mission to elevate “cute” into the art-form it is.

magic child vintage: living the good life

In my blog-sploration today, I happened across the page (via the lovely Style Symmetry) of an online vintage boutique called Magic Child Vintage, the lovechild of two of The Beautiful People – Ashley Krantz and Ian Marshall. A exhaustingly adorable couple you will soon love to hate. Read on.

Their bio according to said page:

Ian and Ashley live together, on a farm, on a piece of land in Akron, Ohio. Also residing on the property are 2 horses, 1 goat, 3 dogs, and some cats. It is a fascinating land like no other. Living in the harmony of country living comes a powerful force of music and style.

Daily living revolves around efficiency & saving energy, right down to the clothesline dried items we sell online. While striving to maintain a GREEN lifestyle we keep our fingers firmly implanted in the latest forms of pop media technologies.

Our day-to-day business is conducted at two locations. The online Vintage Clothing Boutique is run from the farm, while our Music Production Facility is located minutes away in an abandoned glass factory. Both of our locations have low overhead and provide us with plenty of space to allow for an effective workflow.

We seek refuge in the rural landscape while we focus on expanding our ideas and growing presence globally. With an edgy sense for fashion, a fresh musical style, and a unique eye for images Ian and Ashley form a powerful POP media machine.

Really?? A couple of hot models in love, playing music on a farm with white horses – a magical wonderland of pristine vintage clothes, rustic photographic backdrops, and really really Good Hair Days?

If that’s too much American Dream for you to bear, make sure you think twice before taking a gander at the following most awesome vintage gems. Methinks it’s just about time for this blogger to take a midwestern roadtrip, if this is a sample of the bounty for hawk in the thrift stores of Akron, Ohio.

Too fucking cute.

After closing down their eBay store, the couple has had some success selling items from their Myspace page whilst readying their own site.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, items are pretty reasonably priced between $20 and $30.

thrift star of the day: awesome all day

I’ve been wanting to include more random streetstyle photos on this blog, but the problem is that I get incredibly shy about approaching people with my camera, especially intimidatingly stylish people. But one of my best friends in the world, Rory of AwesomeAllDay.com (seriously kids, check it out. Especially if you enjoy things that involve NO SHAME. A very good read.), makes perhaps the best streetstyle liaison one could hope for – he’s likeable, fashionable, and willing to approach almost anyone and be their friend. Except for, perhaps, a rabid grizzly bear. The band though, no problem. In fact, he’s probably already done shots of Jameson with them.

Anyway, here are some photos he took of his adorable friend Adam as he was sighted on the streets of San Francisco. The actual streets, not the show.

The Most Painfully Hip Site of the Week: Advanced Style

My friend Ira of Being Totally Sweet In Chicago pointed me toward this site that has been getting a lot of press lately called Advanced Style which features photos of, er, mature men and women with amazing style. I bet when I’m older I’ll be wearing the craziest duds I can lay my hands on just because, so what, I’m your elder.

Check this out, these elders look amazing and can probably pull off ANYTHING.

Forkably Hip, a deliriously hip evening…

….or was it the wine?

Painfully Hip and Forkable Blog‘s collaborative dinner party event, Forkably Hip was absolutely divine. I met some really amazing people and manged on some cripplingly delicious food. Sorry, but you really missed out if you weren’t there. I’m pretty sure i had a mini aneurism when that dessert hit my lips.

Check out the photos.

The fashion was almost as delicious as the food!

Carolyn
Love Carolyn in this oversized ombre cardi as a dress.
Jessica
peeptoe oxfords
Jessica is the tres cool fashion editor at Time Out Chicago. She helped me judge the outfit contest.
This austere white wool mini and peeptoe top-stitched oxfords just kill.
Pat and Sarah
Sarah’s large silhouette print shift in rust and charcoal looks so rich with a cool grey belt and tights. And I really love how Pat audaciously paired a velvet blazer with a hooded t-shirt and athletic shoes. Cute O.D.
Meg and Ross
Loving Meg’s mustard tights peeking out from under this lovely navy vintage wonder. Ross really pulls off “pretty” in violet and argyle.

Amber of Painfully Hip
I wore my beloved go-to LBD which was sent to me by our event sponsor, LadyLanguage.com with a pair of $20 gladiator heels and my signature tooled leather corset belt from Fox Hunt Vintage. Predictable, perhaps, but give me a break, I packed light.

Andrea
Here’s our concoctor of culinary euphoria for the evening (after finally getting to take off her apron), Andrea, wearing a sweet black dress, trapeze sweater, red patent belt and peeptoe heels. Pin her up!

Sarah
Sarah again after bundling up for her 5 block walk home looked even sweeter than before. Love the tapestry bag.

And the winners of the outfit contest!
Emma
2nd Place ($50 gift certificate from LadyLanguage.com) – Emma (right)! In a high-waisted leather skirt and oversized tennis racket pendant. Fierce.

Erin & Curtis
1st Place ($100 gift certificate from LadyLanguage, com) – Erin (with Curtis)! Erin rocked this thrifted outfit head to toe, mixing argyle and paisley perfectly whilst toting the ultimate accessory, Curtis, who was flawless in a green paisley button-down, polka dot tie and delicious leather accessories. Could they be any cuter….??

bunnybaby
Hmm… perhaps, but then they wouldn’t belong on this blog.

Thank you everyone for coming to this event! We had such a great time. Hope you did too.
