no idea what to get for your painfully hip sister / girlfriend / friend / cousin / niece / aunt / mother? seriously, don’t sweat it. you’re golden with these picks (in order from cheapest to most splurgey…)
$5.40 with PAINFULLYHIP discount code
everyone needs a good staple bangle cuff. this one is stupidly cheap and wicked. hammered metal to get hammered in.
$22.50 with PAINFULLYHIP discount code
anyone who loves this blog will adore this book. a great collection of global street style and an entertaining accessory for any coffee table or porcelain palace.
$22.50 with PAINFULLYHIP discount code
ah, the sweater. the go-to gift for the guy on the go. this one has a little more style than the usual reindeer-emblazoned affair. would look awesome layered over long sleeves, skinny jeans and yummy boots.
$32.40 with PAINFULLYHIP discount code
most girls love tiny jackets almost as much as they love shoes. this will look equally fantabulous worn over a little black dress or jeans and a T.
$35 with PAINFULLYHIP discount code
a totally versatile, slouchy perforated bag. the “bows” convert into a shoulder strap and I betcha it’ll fit their new MacBook.

many loves and misses,

i’ve never been a big fan of Lori’s Shoes of Chicago. i’ve never really wanted to buy half of their inventory even though i can barely afford groceries. i don’t really like beautiful comfy, fashion-forward footwear at low low prices. not really my thing. you know me. i like rubber platform flipflops. and crock knock-offs.
i suppose i could be convinced to look modern gladiator glam in these AMAZING SANDALS…
but i’ve never been one for demure schoolteacher wedges that are comfy as all getout… crisscross aerosole wedges $54.90 (marked down from $72) black and brown sizes 8-10
and if there’s one thing that everyone knows about me it’s that i wouldn’t be caught dead in a pair of sexy peeptoe flats… black mesh peeptoes $30 (marked down from $60) sizes 6, 8.5, 9.5
and these wouldn’t look that adorable w/ a pair of grey wool tights, a screaming citron tent dress and a fitted peacoat for fall… white cutout maryjanes w/ low chunky heel $60 (marked down from $204!) in black or white, sizes 7, 8-9
ok, i gotta stop now. i can’t pretend any longer, my wallet is quaking in its boots. go! take that last pair of mesh gladiator sandals in 7.5! save me from myself.
however, i should mention that if you enter your email address, Lori’s will send you a $10 off coupon.
i swear all i wanna wear all the time is dresses. so cool and comfy and feminine. i think maybe my pop-punk tomboy high school days are over. with a vengeance.
i found this awesome shop called LadyLanguage (not so sure about the name, sounds like a lesbian romance novel or something) via the budget fashionista’s sale section and i’m loving their 75% off sale and their prettypretty vintage-y dresses. you can use the coupon code “BUDGET10″ for an extra 10% off too!
bohemian print dress $19.90! (medium out of stock)
gorgeous mixed prints! pleated waistband complete with sash! this is the jeebus of cotton print sundresses. i want 6, please! blue jersey swing dress $24
jersey is the fabric of the gods and cobalt is my favorite color of the season. and i’m just gahgah over the cut.
noir imprint halter dress $24.90
lovely! the halter is more of a racer back made from braided fabric. love it! floral dropwaist cotton sundress $32.40
stripes and flowers, my favorite combo. i’m not sure if this would look a tad cheap in person? what the heck, i’m a sucker for a dropped waist.
nothing makes me feel better on a rainy day than watching The Perfect Ones eat runway. repeatedly and thoroughly. but seriously though, modelling is HARD. here’s a great video of the entertaining humiliation from my favorite canadian fashion reporter, Jeanne Beker and her show, FT Fashion Television!
well, i shouldn’t say NOTHING makes me feel better than model humiliation. a good DISCOUNT is right up there:
the gorgeous Fabricio over there at Waterloo is offering all of you beautiful hipsters a 10% discount (coupon code: PAINFULLYHIP) AND a buy 3, get one FREE offer on his badass t-shirts and shortshorts! Hallelujah!
also, happy birthday to ambika! everybody take advantage of her new age AND her talent by purchasing her already sensationally-priced pretty things on Etsy for 15% off (today only) with coupon code BIRTHDAY!
ah! i think i see a sucker hole forming in the sky already!
look at me, another handbag post! in my numerous, unfettered searches for fabulousness, i began to notice these amazing bamboo and recycled newspaper handbags by Raw Bags. the bamboo bags are being offered at stupidly awesome prices (10% off and free shipping), they are so rich, artful and earth-friendly as well. and, OMG, i totally heart the earth! the earth is my favorite.
amazingly, the recycled newspaper bags are way more expensive than the bamboo ones, so i won’t be featuring those. although they’re really cute, i don’t heart the earth enough to carry woven garbage around and pay $90 for the privilege. madness.
anyway, these beauties are probably not the most comfortable thing to wear, but pshaw, i’d be happy to bend over and take one for these lovely objets d’art!
bamboo matchstick bag $39.60
sorta reminds me of a glorified sushi mat, this can be converted to an over-sized clutch.
for some reason, i have never once done a handbag post on this site. it’s not that i’m not totally horny for a them, but i suppose the thought of digging out all my 6 month old sushi receipts and eyeshadow coated burt’s bees chapsticks to transfer them into a different handbag for the day is beyond comprehension. so i usually just wear the same one day after day. here are a few that i could make exceptions for.
coffee motorcycle bag
Lovely Grace over there at Accessory Bug emailed me a 10% discount code (MSJ10) for all y’alls. so this one will only run ya round abouts $45.89. yum!
large weekender motorcycle bag $45 with discount
i loooove me a buttery, tough motorcycle bag. another wicked staple that will still be on your shoulder in a few years, collecting up all kinds of makeup detritus and gas receipts…
teal spy bag $45 with the discount
droooool! literally drooling. i’m absolutely loving luscious teal and turquoise accessories, they kinda go w/ almost any color. it’s weird.
black cresent hobo $4.99
lovely. so cute. really, how could you need to spend $40 grand on a freakin’ handbag. it’s just stupidly retarded. not to mention completely, self-righteously insane.
large crinkle hobo: $5.49
um, i wasn’t going to post this one at first because this ISN’T A PORN SITE. seriously though, yikes! am i crazy? or maybe i’m just a total perv. which is awesome.
although i got a gorgeous green Michael Kors one-piece for my birthday, i’m always on the lookout for loverly bikinis. preferably ones without gigantic florescent hibiscus flowers and/or camouflage. this is often more difficult than it sounds, especially since i have a mental block against paying more than $40 for a tiny piece of fabric that i’ll only wear a few times a year if i’m lucky…
ok, i promise i won’t complain about the weather again in this post, but complaining about the weather is a favorite canadian past-time so really i’d just be showing my patriotism. that’s pretty patriotic for an ex-patriot.
seriously though, it’s actually a really good time to look at swimwear (among many other things, but that’s another post) because there’s a wicked summer SALE (up to 70% off) at YesStyle! who knew they had such cute, cheap swimwear??
this purdy lil’ 3 piece for only $37.80 includes a tiny wee sarong which is handy if you haven’t had a wax in over a fortnight. but mostly i just love the description on this: “The two layers of frilly bkinni brief expose your appeal when you twist your body.” most of my “appeal” is in my crotchal area.
usually i hate fussy things like “beads” on a bikini, but the Missoni style print on this $37 bikini is pretty irresistible. again, the caption just says it all: “The beading on the center front and the end of the nect tie with the zic zac print enhance your hippymode on the beach.” Hippymode! is now a permanent part of my vocabulary.
yikes, the YesStyle models are a little to, eh, vapidly gorgeous for my taste. it’s kinda like, why do i even bother? they should really go for only mildly hot models. anyway, this is so sweet for only $25!. i love the style of the top (is it bandeau or string? i’ve got my top scientists on it but we may never know for sure) and is that a purple link on the bottoms? adorable.
this is so cute and only $40.50! if i had this i could go to the beach on my worst water weight day after a night of binge-drinking nothing but Guinness! i’m not totally convinced about the print, but i love this style. this would also be so great for maternity swimwear, but who am i kidding, i’m preggers with a beer baby every day.
is a cheap chic fashion blog and a collaboration of a pair of Californian twins. Amber is traveling the globe in search of inspiration whilst Eve holds fort in the capital city. We feature outfits of the day, online indie boutique discounts, diy ideas, are on the hunt for audacious prints and blinding color, but most of all unrepentant personal style.
crochet minidress with pockets
I'm in denial. I refuse to believe it's back to school time or that the leaves are turning brown. OR that I'm going to start having to wear PANTS eventually. No. I'm going to go ahead and pretend that mini-dresses are a practical way to continue dressing into fall. I would like to wear this gorgeousness layered over a richly-coloured ascot blouse and vintage boots.
