<p>Bloggers, you know you do it. You get an especially insightful/gushy comment and immediately click their blog link to hone in on just how much weight is behind said opinion. On one such electro-excursion, I unearthed this meekly named site called <a href="http://lemondedetiny.canalblog.com/">tiny&#8217;s world</a>&#8230; </p>
<p><a href="http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/24046333.jpg"><img src="http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/24046333.jpg" alt="flapper fashion illustration" title="flapper fashion illustration" width="387" height="451" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-3310" /></a><a href="http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/25706223.jpg"><img src="http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/25706223.jpg" alt="smoking girl fashion illustration" title="smoking girl fashion illustration" width="364" height="425" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-3311" /></a><a href="http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/24335645.jpg"><img src="http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/24335645.jpg" alt="fashion illustration" title="fashion illustration" width="380" height="440" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-3317" /></a></p>
<p>Kaboom! Ocular Orgasm. Her site is like <a href="http://www.pandora.com/">a Pandora station</a> for my eyes. So besides being knocked down by this site&#8217;s tail feathers, I also felt slightly more legit.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/40869281.jpg"><img src="http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/40869281.jpg" alt="hip fashion illustration" title="hip fashion illustration" width="450" height="692" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-3318" /></a></p>

<p><a href="http://lemondedetiny.canalblog.com/">Tiny&#8217;s World</a> is the blog of a french illustrator named Julie Nivert.<br />
Her illustrations remind me of a more geometric version of <a href="http://www.painfullyhip.com/2007/08/painfully-hip-site-of-the-week/">another Painfully Hip Site of the Week</a>, The Moldy Doily by <a href="http://themoldydoily.typepad.com/">Kime Buzzelli</a>.- a beautiful mingling of decisive, yet deliciously sketchy form and abstraction with an undeniable undercurrent of her profound grasp on the Hip.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/33416598.jpg"><img src="http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/33416598.jpg" alt="sweater dress illustration" title="sweater dress illustration" width="165" height="450" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-3331" /></a> <a href="http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/31507312.jpg"><img src="http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/31507312.jpg" alt="futuristic fashion illustration" title="futuristic fashion illustration" width="214" height="421" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-3314" /></a><br />

<p>She also posts her inspiration for these sublime mouthfuls of beauty &#8211; the most drop dead collection of photography that has ever graced my glance. A more exact interpretation of my taste in every frame than even I could collect on my own.</p>

<p>Seldom do I come across a blog which I am convinced is fated to be The Next Big Thing. Enter <a href="http://theglamourai.blogspot.com/">The Glamourai</a>, a painfully talented <a href="http://theglamourai.blogspot.com/2008/10/sin-city.html">stylist</a> and <a href="http://theglamourai.blogspot.com/2008/10/costume-of-day_15.html">jewelry designer</a> who has been touted as <a href="http://www.thevintagesociety.com/2007/06/07/the-society-girl-of-the-week-8/">The Sartorialist&#8217;s Muse</a>, no less!</p>
<p><center><img src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_J7vxN37uZxw/RmhdnO7TazI/AAAAAAAAAdY/JO8p-KljU2Q/s400/Frankie.jpg" alt="glamourai" /><img src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_J7vxN37uZxw/RmheEO7Ta2I/AAAAAAAAAdw/vMoM3QNrU6k/s400/Kport.jpg" alt="closeup" /><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lKtBdw2i33s/SPX0NWnsMII/AAAAAAAAAeY/LwiyeGSKRZY/s400/pebbles+1.jpg" alt="baubles" /><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_lKtBdw2i33s/SOV7ypFKDqI/AAAAAAAAAYY/WkL7CbuHgqk/s400/goldz.jpg" alt="striped" /></center></p>
<p>Perpetually waist-deep in inspiration from fashion shows, streetstyle blogs and fashionable friends, I sometimes find it harrowing to attempt true originality whilst getting dressed. That&#8217;s why this week&#8217;s choice is SERIOUSLY KICKING MY ASS. How can a girl in the core of The Big Apple, <a href="http://theglamourai.blogspot.com/2008/10/smore.html">backstage at Galliano</a>, traipsing around <a href="http://theglamourai.blogspot.com/2008/10/whats-girl-to-do.html">the Hamptons</a> and <a href="http://theglamourai.blogspot.com/2008/10/costume-for-best-day-ever.html">Paris</a>, runway show to photoshoot, <a href="http://theglamourai.blogspot.com/2008/10/rite-of-fashion.html">rubbing elbows with Karl</a>, basically DROWNING in inspiration, still manage to appear thoroughly inventive, yet simultaneously classic??</p>
<p><center><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lKtBdw2i33s/SOQZXurMFeI/AAAAAAAAAYA/b1lHBwhHFvw/s400/floral+1.jpg" /><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_lKtBdw2i33s/SPiVOaNc8PI/AAAAAAAAAfQ/bMMFe27jJ20/s400/friday+1.jpg" alt="harem pants sequined" /><a href="http://theglamourai.blogspot.com/2008/10/costume-of-day_14.html"><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_lKtBdw2i33s/SPUcasz6LbI/AAAAAAAAAdw/Fz8cZmuNZD4/s400/grid+2.jpg" alt="striped skirt" /></a><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lKtBdw2i33s/SOom6CdkVFI/AAAAAAAAAaA/Hf1k1ft3yaQ/s400/1058lanberet.jpg" alt="beret" /></center></p>
<p> Perhaps it&#8217;s because of her proclivity toward mixing genres in her outfits (or &#8220;costumes,&#8221; as both she and <a href="http://www.greygardens.com/">Edie Beale</a> would put it) &#8211; vintage with modern, designer with high street, sequins with cableknit, handmade jewelry with tailor-chopped yard sale finds, fur with flannel, the avant-garde with the elegant&#8230; It is truly dizzying. She is <a href="http://theglamourai.blogspot.com/2008/10/costume-of-day_15.html">ballsy</a> at &#8220;excessorizing,&#8221; feathered hats, oversized baubles, tangled chains, but rarely letting the shoes be the be all, end all crown jewel of the outfit, an often easy &#8220;out&#8221; for the more peripherally clad.</p>
<p> To boot, she is a prolific blogger with a charming (read: unpretentious) voice, an amazing DIYer, boasts gams to die for, the face of a model and a <a href="http://inspiring-sabina.blogspot.com/2008/10/katekatekate.html">Kate Lanphear</a>ean haircut we all wish we could pull off.</p>
<p>To quote the incorrigible Rachel Zoe:<br />
I die.</p>
<p> For all these reasons and more, I humbly award <a href="http://theglamourai.blogspot.com/">The Glamourai</a> top honors in the form of a badge featuring the peerless Isabella Blow. No less! Because like Izzy, The Glamourai believes that life was meant to be &#8220;extravagantly embellished&#8221; and that everyday is an &#8220;occasion for serious dress-up&#8221; to persistently give voice to one&#8217;s flair for the extraordinary.</p>
<p><center><img src="http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/painfullyhipisabellabadge.jpg" alt="painfullyhipisabellabadge.jpg" /></center></p>

<p>although i&#8217;ve heard of <a href="http://daddylikey.blogspot.com/">Daddy Likey</a> many times, it has somehow thus far avoided my mousal exploration. i don&#8217;t know why. maybe i have dad issues. thank jeebus i got over them though, because this blog makes me very happy. and by happy i mean silly with delight. and i quote:</p>
<blockquote><p><center><img src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_MZd3_a0qUBg/Rt-s3IuZ77I/AAAAAAAAA9M/aB7Um0FtxbA/s400/mr+rogers.jpg" alt="rogerssweater" /></center><br />
&#8220;My reaction to this sweater&#8211;an involuntary squeal followed by hyperventilating followed by ransacking my house to try to find an extra $275, only to find 30 damn cents&#8211;made me realize not only that I am extremely materialistic, but that this sweater is my style, epitomized.Let me just call up my old calculus know-how to put together a quick formula here&#8230;let&#8217;s see&#8230;.Slouchy grandpa + flamboyant showgirl = Winona. Yep, that&#8217;s about right.</p>
<p>Nanette Lepore Sequin Cardigan, $275, nordstrom.com</p>
<p>p.s. How rad would it be if there were a lost episode called Mr. Rogers Goes to Vegas? I wonder how many times he changed his shoes in that one.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>her name is Winona, she&#8217;s beautiful, completely hilarious, has amazing <a href="http://daddylikey.blogspot.com/2007/08/nifty-thrifty.html">thrifting luck</a> and mad (mad!) writing skillz, she&#8217;s like the <a href="http://dooce.com/">Heather Armstrong</a> of fashion blogs. she recently marched in a peace march in DC! thanks Winona! Painfully Hip will come right out and say that Bush&#8217;s War Sucks Balls. yes folks, you heard it here first. i need to make some bumper stickers.</p>
<p>anyway, definitely check out her <a href="http://daddylikey.blogspot.com/search/label/Don%27t%20Show-cha%20Your%20Chocha">Don&#8217;t Show-cha your Chocha series</a> for hilariously wardrobe malfunction (oh hell no. i didn&#8217;t just do that, did i?) worthy dresses. She&#8217;s also running a contest for <a href="http://daddylikey.blogspot.com/2007/09/contest-junior-high-fashion-confessions.html">the most embarrassing junior high fashion stories</a> (uh, i&#8217;m having devastating flashbacks of my tight white denim cut-offs with plastic shit glued all over them! help!). vote on the hilariously heartbreaking finalists <a href="http://daddylikey.blogspot.com/2007/09/time-has-come.html">here</a>.</p>
<p>so Winona of Daddy Likey? i&#8217;m gonna go ahead and give you a <a href="http://www.painfullyhip.com/about-painfully-hip/painfully-hip-badges/">Painfully Hip Site of the Week</a> M.I.A. badge because she&#8217;s the only girl in the world who can pull off the ghastliest <a href="http://www.painfullyhip.com/2007/06/27/where-were-you-in-92-mia-has-her-say/">junior high fashion of my generation</a> and still be worthy of the Painfully Hip masthead. nice work, Winona. how hip are you?!<br />

a <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/wardrobe_remix/pool/">wardrobe remix</a>er and <a href="http://www.painfullyhip.com/category/thrift-stars/">thrift star of the week</a> regular, Ringo (do you mind if i call you that, hun? the alternative would be Banana, or worse yet RiHAB, and we know you&#8217;re no Amy Winehouse&#8230;) can do no wrong. she has been featured multiple times in <a href="http://www.neetmagazine.com/">Neet Magazine</a>, has such a cute, matter-of-fact writing style and her blog design is always inspiring and changes for the seasons. she recently up and moved to New York and so lately her posting has slowed, but now she&#8217;s back and writing about her <a href="http://ringohaveabanana.blogspot.com/2007/09/storming-tents.html">Bryant Park tent stalking hi-jinx</a>!</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;After long hot hours in the city sun, our spirits were a bit worn out. To be so close to fashion week and not actually be able to go in! But then! A mysterious stranger sporting nerd glasses and an afro drew us aside and, out of the goodness of his golden heart, showed us a side entrance where we could just waltz right on in. He disappeared into the subway before we could ask his name, but he did give me an especially enthusiastic thumbs up as a parting gift.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>she sure is making a go of it over there in the big apple, but the best part is her outfits, which are lovely, and quirky in the most covetable way&#8230;<br />

so, <a href="http://ringohaveabanana.blogspot.com/">Ringo, Have a Banana</a>, because of your fearlessness, i dub thee painfully hip, Kirsten Dunst style, because we <em>all</em> secretly adored <a href="http://bp1.blogger.com/_ab5cPXB7ib8/Rss_wiIabkI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/7bAZTVRDWP4/s400/CoventGarden270307_04.jpg">that outfit she wore with the chartreuse tights and lavendar scarf</a>&#8230;<br />

<p>it is appropriate that this week&#8217;s site review was written in a 3am insomniatic fit as it is the probably the most dreamlike real life blog i have experienced. there are very few corners of the web i feel i can go to for true inspiration. <a href="http://themoldydoily.typepad.com/">the moldy doily</a> is one of those precious veins of digital nectar.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;When I was little I liked to write plays and puppet shows, creating all the different characters. I would daydream about the beautiful dresses I wanted to clothe my fantasy characters in. I then learned I could paint the clothes I would never actually touch. The things I daydream are still the same&#8230; floating feminine fantasies, x-ray vision, magazine pages freeze-framed, tea parties, voyeurism, stolen words from overheard conversations, tear-drop Lolitas, ghosts, decomposing wallpaper flowers, merging fiction and reality, the eyes of vacant models, and the murmur of tiny stuffed animal clusters.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p><a href="http://themoldydoily.typepad.com/about.html">kime</a> is a painfully talented artist who writes beautifully about what inspires her, includes consistenly stunning photos and is an amazing photographer herself. the party photos of her millions of ridiculously stylish friends will make you feel like you&#8217;re in the <a href="http://themoldydoily.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/08/watch-out-for-t.html">great gatsby</a>. oh and just forget about her <a href="http://themoldydoily.typepad.com/photos/pretty_things_i_made/index.html">paintings and clothes</a>. they&#8217;re the sorts of things that will just send you into a pleasure coma:<br />
<center><br />
<img src="http://themoldydoily.typepad.com/my_weblog/images/2007/08/11/kimmy_test.jpg" alt="painting" /><br />

<img src='http://www.painfullyhip.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/1213_1338.jpg' alt='1213_1338.jpg' /><br />
</center><br />
she&#8217;s also extremely accomplished:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Kime Buzzelli who are you?<br />
I&#8217;m a painter-clothing maker, shop owner. My art has been published in books such as Fashion Illustration Next by Laird Borrelli- Vintage L.A. due out this spring. I have done illustrations for magazines such as Lula (UK), Bust, PAPER, W, Front Desk, Juxtapoz, and BPM. I create clothes- that have been featured in Elle, Venus, Jalouse, W, Apparel News, WWD, PAPER, Visionaire- and more&#8230;&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>it makes me simultaneously want to either manicly create or give up completely. her artwork reminds me so much of my most favorite fashion illustrator, <a href="http://images.google.com/images?q=julie+verhoeven&#038;hl=en&#038;safe=off&#038;client=safari&#038;rls=en&#038;pwst=1&#038;um=1&#038;sa=X&#038;oi=images&#038;ct=title">julie verhoeven</a> (i hope she doesn&#8217;t tire of the comparison). my envy of her talent and lifestyle might lead me to madness, were it not that she is such a seemingly pure soul and a real person (she gave <a href="http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/superbad/">Superbad</a> a thumbs up!). i loved <a href="http://themoldydoily.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/08/you-know-where-.html">this post </a>about how she met her dreamy boyfriend, as if in a movie.</p>
<p><center>but really, i need to stop talking now. see fer yerself (i very much hope she doesn&#8217;t mind my pirating her precious images but i just can&#8217;t <em>say</em> enough). that&#8217;s her on the left:<br />

oh and i don&#8217;t believe i mentioned the best part. the best part is that she has an <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=39354">etsy store</a>!!</p>
<p>so, Kime Buzzelli of the Moldy Doily? i dub thee as painfully hip as my hero <a href="http://images.google.com/images?q=louise+brooks&#038;hl=en&#038;safe=off&#038;client=safari&#038;rls=en&#038;pwst=1&#038;um=1&#038;sa=X&#038;oi=images&#038;ct=title">Louise Brooks</a> because you appear to share my obsession with all things roaring&#8230;<br />

<p>i&#8217;ve decided to start highlighting my most inspirational blog reads of the week. i just get this feeling sometimes that i want to spread the love. because you know what? i love love. and i also love this blog:<br />
<center><a href="http://thevintagesociety.blogspot.com">The Vintage Society</a><br />
<img src="http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger2/3774/210340261116784/220/z/315744/gse_multipart54815.jpg" alt="vintage society" /><br />
it&#8217;s about a girl named Beth with a dream to open her very own vintage boutique next year in Santa Ana, CA. I am so inspired by her drive&#8230;</center></p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;The Vintage Society will sell a wide range of vintage clothing that will be current with each season&#8217;s trends. There will be a &#8220;girls only&#8221; policy inside the store that will create an enviroment where there will be freedom to design and inspire an individual style.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>I love the store concept, she keeps us updated on it&#8217;s progress and i really love her weekly features like the <a href="http://thevintagesociety.blogspot.com/search/label/Society%20Girl%20of%20the%20Week">Society Girl of the Week</a> feature which spotlights style icons like <a href="http://thevintagesociety.blogspot.com/2007/08/society-girl-of-week_16.html">Bridgitte Bardot</a>, <a href="http://thevintagesociety.blogspot.com/2007/04/society-girl-of-week.html">Jenny Lewis</a>, <a href="http://thevintagesociety.blogspot.com/2007/07/society-girl-of-week_26.html">Lou Doillon</a>, <a href="http://thevintagesociety.blogspot.com/2007/05/society-girl-of-week_31.html">Kirsten Dunst</a> and even <a href="http://thevintagesociety.blogspot.com/2007/08/socety-girl-of-week.html">other bloggers</a>.</p>
<p>But my absolute favorite feature of hers is the <a href="http://thevintagesociety.blogspot.com/search/label/Society%20Challenges">Society Challenge of the Week</a>. here are the rules:</p>
<blockquote><p>1. We choose ONE store for each challenge.<br />
2. Once inside the store, I choose one item that we both have to build an outfit around.<br />
3. We split up to grab everything interesting in sight.<br />
4. No peaking!<br />
5. Outfit has to consist of all items from chosen store, with the exception of shoes and accessories that we are already wearing.<br />
6. We enter the dressing room and seperately begin to create.<br />
7. No peaking!</p></blockquote>
<p>although there have only been two challenges so far, i wait with baited breath (and smelling of garlic at the moment, just so you know) for the next one.</p>
<p>Beth of <a href="http://thevintagesociety.blogspot.com">The Vintage Society</a>, i hereby declare you Painfully Hip and bestow on you the Painful Badge of Hipness, emblazoned with one time <a href="http://thevintagesociety.blogspot.com/2007/05/society-girl-of-week.html">Society Girl of the Week</a>, Chloe Sevigny.<br />
