(FYI, Similar shoes can be acquired at your local Rite Aid for about $5.)

M.I.A. gets her design on and considers quitting her day job

It’s been said before that M.I.A. has some irrepressible personal style. That fact cannot be denied…

mia style

So it’s totally effing awesome that she’s starting her own clothing line of bomber jackets, print leggings and T-shirts!

But really? No more of this…??

A friend of mine says that the fact that she can’t dance worth a can of chickpeas is like the effect of a cooling tower on preventing a nuclear reaction of cool.

going tribal on yer ass

My most favorite spring collection so far must be the indispensable Matthew Williamson. A joyous mix of MIA-licious tribal prints and splashy, feminine, citrus colours making me totally weak in the knees (images courtesy of Style.com).

So now, of course, i’m completely obsessed with smothering myself in a lovely, clashing mess of batik, chiffon and scarves. And although I think I’ll have much better luck altering some early 90s thrift store finds, there are a few lovely tribal-inspired treasures to be found online. Let’s go shopping, shall we?

the aviator

apparently i like to torture myself, something i realized when checking out the new Kate Moss for Topshop line, which i can’t possibly afford to have shipped to me. the clothes are amazing, but what really caught my eye was Irina Lazareanu in those perfect aviators…

i. said. god. DAMN.

i’ve been on the hunt for the perfect pair of aviators since time began. i like something a bit flashy, but not too starsky and hutch; something oversized, but not bug-eyed. i prefer a white or gold frame, ideally rimless on the bottom, amber-hued graduated tint, and non-reflective lenses… as if that’s not a tall enough order, i’m losing my sunglasses constantly (i think you would probably be able to find me by the trail of lost sunglasses) and i treat them like a red-headed stepchild. so i need something dirt cheap. or free. free would be good…

badass urban outfitters metal-rimmed aviator in gold: $14

glam forever21 metal-rimmed aviator in gold: $4.80

and for the slightly more daring…

null
boss forever21 aviators in white and yellow: $5.80

flash delia*s aviators in gold and white: $12.50

but you know what would really butter my muffin? serious quality aviators almost identical to Irina’s and a set of lipglosses free from Bebe. just sign up to win in my sidebar banner! thanks coutorture, freechic is the one thing i like better than cheapchic…

sites that do the bargain shopping for you

i got an email recently from a woman doing some marketing for a site called NetHaggler.

apparently you can…

  • tag an item you desire using their toolbar and when the price drops to what you want to pay, they’ll inform you.
  • get them to nag a retailer to lower the price for you immediately, or…
  • join a group of shoppers to haggle for a group rate!

crazy huh? it’s still in beta so we’ll see how it pans out. it seems too good to be true. it needs a new web designer- the logo is a blatant copy of flickr’s and would probably only work for items with less demand and no fixed value. however it could work especially well for things like clothes and shoes. it seems to have a good selection of retailers so far (Macy’s, Tiffany, Delia*s, Nordstrom, FCUK, Bloomingdale’s…).

another site i discovered recently is JungleCrazy. its an image-driven engine that crawls Amazon.com for its backend most insane deals ever. anything over 70% off. its a beautiful site, but kind of a bitch to navigate.

crazygonuts. the interwebs are my favorite.
